History of Kleinburg


Kleinburg was founded by a German Canadian settler named John Kline. According to historic maps of Vaughan Township, this town was originally known as the Village of Kleinburg.  When the village grew into a town, it was renamed Kleinburg.

The word Kleinburg in German means a small town. Kleinburg was known for its flour and wheat mills in its early years, which were located and operated off the banks of the Humber River.

In the West part of Kleinburg, large housing developments were established in the 1950s, in the southeast in the 1970s, in the south in 1993, in the northeast in the 1990s and to the north in the 2000s.

During the later years, there were large homes built that were over a million dollars in the Nashville Road area. The most expensive homes, however, are the ones located near the Humber River and in the conservation areas.

St. Padre Pio Church is located on 6.4 acres of land on Major Mackenzie Drive in Kleinburg. This 21,260 square foot Basilica Style Catholic church has the capacity to hold 100 people. There are 3 entrances and 400 parking spaces.

This beautiful church features beautiful surrounding landscaping and gardens. It hosts a large outdoor atrium which consists of a rosary walk, seating, statue of St. Padre Pio and a garden complex.

The Binder Twine Festival

Every year on the first Saturday after Labour Day, Kleinburg hosts the Binder Twine Festival. Over 800 volunteers organize and run this annual event. Olde Tyme activities, great entertainment, food, craft exhibitors and much more can be enjoyed during this great family event. Dress in pioneer costume to represent the spirit of the festival and there is no admission fee.

Kleinburg is a great community to live in.  It has that small-town feel with all the conveniences of a big city location. It is luxury living and offers many housing styles.
